Learning Management Systems

April 20th, 2010

Some of these are already well-known. Hopefully I can open your eyes to some less well-known but potentially superior learning management systems.

.LRN

“Learn, Research, Network.” A complete learning management system. Includes many extra features, too. International language support (spotty, but improving).  SCORM Compliant. Linux web server (requires IT expertise to install) only.

Claroline
http://www.claroline.net/
A newer learning management system, still missing some features (no assessment features, AFAIK). SCORM Compliant. Windows, Linux, or Mac Server (must have Apache, PHP, MySQL, mail transport).

Docebo
http://www.docebo.org/
Learning management system for corporate enterprise use. Multilingual support is excellent. SCORM Compliant. Windows, Linux, or Mac Server (must have Apache, PHP, MySQL, mail transport).

Dokeos
http://www.dokeos.com/
Online learning management system. This one appears to be good for large business/small enterprise or academic settings. Free version is crippled version of pay-for Pro version (with “if you have to ask” pricing scheme). SCORM compliant. Most OSes.

LearnLoop
http://learnloop.sourceforge.net/
Online learning management system. Very bare-bones look (like Moodle). English, Swedish and Spanish. Latest (2.0) version SCORM compliant. Windows, Linux, or Mac Server (must have Apache, PHP, MySQL, mail transport).

Moodle
http://moodle.org/
“The Devil you Know” online learning management system. Very modular, and very clunky (my opinion). SCORM compliant. Windows, Linux, or Mac Server (must have Apache, PHP, MySQL, mail transport).

OLAT
http://www.olat.org/
“Online Learning And Training.” Learning management system. SCORM compliant. Multilingual support. Windows, Linux, or Mac Server (must have Apache, PHP, MySQL, mail transport).

Outstanding work, Samoo! This looks like it’s comparable to OLAT, which also has some prestigious academic pedigrees.
